GRIFFITH STATEMENT ON PASSAGE OF NATIONAL RIGHT-TO-CARRY RECIPROCITY ACT

“H.R. 822 would allow law-abiding gun owners, with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit or license, to carry a concealed firearm in other states that also allow concealed carry as long as they comply with the laws of the state they are in,” said Congressman Griffith.

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement today regarding House passage of the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act of 2011 (H.R. 822). Congressman Griffith is a co-sponsor of this bipartisan legislation:

“H.R. 822 would allow law-abiding gun owners, with a valid state-issued concealed firearm permit or license, to carry a concealed firearm in other states that also allow concealed carry as long as they comply with the laws of the state they are in,” said Congressman Griffith. “The bill does not set national standards for permits.  No federal agency would be involved in the implementation of this reciprocity. When Virginians with valid concealed carry permits enter other states, they would still be required to comply with all concealed carry laws of the states in which they are present – in the same manner that drivers’ licenses are currently recognized.”
