Griffith Statement on Protests

Washington, June 6, 2012 | Maggie Seidel ((202) 225-3861)

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) released the following statement today after a handful of protesters were removed from his Washington, D.C. office for disturbing office operations:

“I wholeheartedly welcome differing opinions, disagreement, and dissent, but I do not welcome disruptive behavior.  My office in Washington, D.C. is paid for by the American taxpayers, and I’m committed to running it in a professional manner.  Earlier today, while I was in a committee hearing, members of my staff repeatedly asked a handful of protesters to conduct themselves in a professional manner while visiting my office.  Unfortunately, the group failed to comply with these requests and had to be removed.  This group was told on several occasions that they were welcome to stay in the office – for as long as they’d like – provided they remained professional and allowed my staff to continue conducting the business of all my constituents.  Though today’s outcome may not have been the most productive, I look forward to reengaging this group in the future.”
