Griffith Applauds Rural Development Funds to Coalfield Communities

Today, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development announced that it had approved grants and loans totaling $154,500 to the towns of Clintwood and Haysi in Dickenson County and Gate City in Scott County. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement: “I am pleased that USDA Rural Development awarded over $150,000 in funds to some of the communities in the coalfields. These grants and loans will secure new equipment for police and firefighters, improving public safety as a result.” Clintwood received a grant of $25,000 and a loan of $8,500 to purchase fire department equipment. Haysi received a grant of $25,000 and a loan of $15,000 to purchase police vehicles and equipment. Gate City received a grant of $28,000 and a loan of $53,000 to purchase police vehicles and equipment. ### |
