Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today issued the following statement after the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) announced a $917,315 grant to the LENOWISCO Planning District for development of the Project Intersection industrial site in Norton:

“The Project Intersection industrial site in Norton is in a great position to attract new manufacturing and industrial operations to the coalfields. Today’s ARC grant provides additional funding for developing the site. It continues the cooperation between the federal, state, and local levels to realize this site’s potential and bring jobs and investment to our area.”

Background

In addition to the ARC grant, $3.5 million in federal funding for the project was previously announced in August 2018. That funding was part of $20 million Griffith has secured for a pilot program to fund abandoned mine land reclamation in Virginia, specifically focusing on economic development.

Griffith has long been a supporter of ARC and its mission. He has testified and submitted letters expressing his support during the appropriations process and voted for ARC funding, including in fiscal year 2019’s Energy and Water House appropriations bill.
