Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development announced a $3,000,000 grant for broadband in Scott County:

“Improved broadband access in rural areas is critical to economic development. Today’s grant announcement is great news for homes and businesses in Scott County. I was pleased to have supported this $3,000,000 investment, which will open doors to new opportunities.”

Background

Griffith sent a letter of support for this project. He has also cosponsored legislation to improve rural broadband and urged President Trump to include rural broadband in an infrastructure package.

USDA Rural Development is supporting this project through its Community Connect Grants program. The $3,000,000 investment will be used to deliver state of the art services to 554 households and 20 businesses in the Nickelsville area. It will also establish a community center for residents to access computer terminals and WiFi for free.
