Griffith Statement on Postal Reform Bill

Tuesday, February 8, 2022 | Kevin Baird (202-225-3861)

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 3076, the Postal Service Reform Act:

“The financial difficulties of the U.S. Postal Service have been clear for a long time, but the solutions are not. Previous attempts to fix the problem have been tried and found wanting.

“I know this bill will not fix all of USPS’s problems either, and I have concerns about some of its provisions. Nevertheless, I believe it contains enough worthwhile reforms to earn my support. My hope is that it will establish a foundation for further improvements. Unlike many other items Washington spends taxpayer money on, the Post Office is clearly a congressional responsibility according to Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution. H.R. 3076 is a balanced, positive approach to fulfilling our constitutional duty.

“The Postal Service’s problems will not go away on their own, so inaction is not an option. I chose to take positive action.”
