GRIFFITH PARTICIPATES IN HISTORIC READING OF CONSTITUTION

The Constitution is the governing document of this nation and should guide our work in Congress. Along with my colleagues, I read aloud a portion of the Constitution on the House floor today and reflected on the enormity of the responsibility we have in the 112th Congress.

Congressman Morgan Griffith (VA-09) issued this statement regarding the historic reading of the United States Constitution on the House floor:

“The Constitution is the governing document of this nation and should guide our work in Congress. Along with my colleagues, I read aloud a portion of the Constitution on the House floor today and reflected on the enormity of the responsibility we have in the 112th Congress. I remained on the floor for the entire reading.

“Many Southwest Virginians have told me that Congress must get back to the principles outlined in this founding document. I agree. As a Member of the House of Representatives, it is my duty to protect our constitutional rights and freedoms. The words of our Founding Fathers must not be forgotten and this country restored to the people.”

Today marks the first time the Constitution has been read aloud on the House floor in its entirety. The reading was spearheaded by Congressman Bob Goodlatte (VA-06) with the support of Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli.
