Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement announcing his appointment to two key subcommittees on the House Energy and Commerce Committee for the 112^th Congress:

“I look forward to serving on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and working to strengthen our nation’s economy. The Energy and Commerce Committee has jurisdiction over many important issues affecting Southwest Virginians, including energy policy, environmental regulations, health care, and technology.I will also serve on the Energy and Power and the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittees.

“As a member of the Energy and Power Subcommittee, I will promote an energy policy focused on theuse of our domestic resources, including coal and natural gas. A strong national energy policy is an essential component to a thriving economy and job creation. Our nation, especially Southwest Virginia, has been blessed with a vast amount of natural resources. If we don’t develop them and strengthen our own economic security, there are many other countries waiting in line to do so.

“The Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee is responsible for conducting investigations and keeping federal agencies in check that fall under the Committee’s jurisdiction. My role on this Subcommittee will enable me to ask tough questions of federal agencies ranging from the EPA to the Health and Human Services Department, which oversees the implementation of Obamacare. I’m ready to get to work for Southwest Virginia and hold these agencies accountable for their actions.”
