GRIFFITH STATEMENT ON SWVA TORNADOES

I commend the countless volunteers, law enforcement agencies, first responders, local governments, and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for their work to clean up after these storms.

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) released the following statement regarding the recent tornadoes in Southwest Virginia:

“The impact of the tornadoes in Southwest Virginia is extensive, damaging hundreds of homes and businesses in the community. My prayers and condolences are with those affected by these tornadoes, especially those who lost loved ones.

“I commend the countless volunteers, law enforcement agencies, first responders, local governments, and the Virginia Department of Emergency Management for their work to clean up after these storms. I want to thank Virginia’s political leadership at the local, state, and federal levels – Republicans, Democrats, and Independents – who all stood together as Virginians to help the people of Southwest Virginia. Last week, a vast majority of the Virginia congressional delegation, both Senators and Members of Congress, sent a bi-partisan letter to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) seeking assistance for Pulaski County. After seeing the destruction firsthand in Glade Spring and Chilhowie, I have no doubt we will also work together in a bi-partisan fashion to help these individuals. Likewise, I stand ready to assist other regions of the state affected by these horrendous storms.”
