Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) released the following statement announcing the upcoming Military Service Academy Day in Abingdon:

“Southwest Virginia has a rich tradition of military service. Each year young men and women from the 9^th District attend our nation’s military service academies. These institutions provide exceptional education as well as the opportunity to serve our country. High school students from the District who are interested in attending one of the five military service academies or participating in a university level ROTC program may want to come to our Military Service Academy Day to learn more about the process.”

Congressman Griffith invites all 9^th District high school students, their parents, and guidance counselors to the 9^th District’s 2011 Military Service Academy Day. Students will have the opportunity to meet with officials from the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy as well as representatives from ROTC programs. Congressman Griffith’s staff will also be available to answer questions regarding the process for congressional nominations.
