GRIFFITH INTRODUCES ‘EPA REGULATORY RELIEF ACT’

Rep. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement today after introducing H.R. 2250, the EPA Regulatory Relief Act of 2011. In response to serious concerns from a number of industries regarding the EPA’s Boiler MACT rules, this bipartisan legislation directs the EPA to develop achievable standards for boilers, process heaters, and incinerators and extends compliance deadlines to allow facilities time to comply.

“It’s about jobs,” said Griffith. “The goal of the EPA Regulatory Relief Act is straightforward – give the EPA the time they need to get the rules right while protecting jobs. This legislation requires the EPA to set achievable and workable standards for facilities utilizing boilers, process heaters, and incinerators and allows time for compliance. The EPA’s Boiler MACT rules impact businesses, institutions, and facilities across the 9th District and nationwide. Exceptionally high compliance costs threaten to jeopardize tens of thousands of jobs. We can’t afford to lose more American jobs. The EPA Regulatory Relief Act is a dose of commonsense for an ailing patient.” 

Reps. G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.), John Barrow (D-GA), Jim Matheson (D-UT), Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-WA), Pete Olson (R-TX), Mike Ross (D-AR), and Steve Scalise (R-LA) also joined as original co-sponsors. All serve on the House Energy and Commerce Committee.
