Congressman Morgan Griffith issued the following statement regarding his vote to oppose the Protecting Access to Healthcare (PATH) Act (H.R. 5):
"I wholeheartedly support the repeal of the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB), but I can’t support it when combined with the PATH Act. I’ve twice voted against this bill, in committee and on the Floor, because I believe it takes a very good Virginia malpractice law and forces it to resemble the Californian model. I still don't understand why Washington thinks a one-size-fits-all approach is good policy. This is a matter that I believe should be left to the states. I didn’t come to Congress to help Washington force Virginia to change the rules of Virginia courts. Congress needs to focus on fixing Washington before it starts trying to fix the various states. In Virginia, while there can always be improvements, the system is not broken. So in paraphrasing the old adage, ‘if it ain’t broke, we certainly don’t want Washington to try and fix it.”
