Gate City National Guard unit recognized for performance

GATE CITY — A Gate City-based Army National Guard unit was recognized recently as being one of the top reserve units in Virginia for its performance during 2011. The 1032nd Transportation Company, 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group was awarded the Eisenhower Trophy and Superior Unit Award by the Virginia Army National Guard. The award is given to the most outstanding company-level unit in the Virginia Army National Guard during the 2011 training year. U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith praised the 1032nd and the Martinsville-based 1173rd Transportation Company for their achievements. “Congratulations to the soldiers of the 1032nd and to the soldiers of the 1173rd on a job well done,” Griffith said. “The hard work and dedication continually demonstrated by these men and women is truly admirable.” The entire 1032nd Transportation Battalion and 1173rd Transportation Company earned the Virginia Army National Guard’s Excellence in Training Award for meeting the adjutant general’s standards for training for the previous training year. Named after former president and general Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Eisenhower Trophy is given by the Chief of the National Guard Bureau to the most outstanding Army National Guard unit in each state. To earn the Superior Unit Award, units must maintain an assigned strength of 95 percent of authorized personnel each month of the training year, maintain monthly drill attendance of 95 percent, attain annual training attendance of 95 percent, have 95 percent of all assigned personnel qualify with their assigned weapon, and have 90 percent of all assigned personnel pass the Army Physical Fitness Test. |
