Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today issued the following statement on the House of Representatives’ selection of Congressman Paul D. Ryan (WI-01) to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives:
“After having been voted Speaker-Designate by the Republican Conference yesterday, Congressman Paul Ryan said we have to start fresh and make rules changes, including some rules changes that are to begin as early as November. I have been working with him and others in recent weeks to craft some of these changes. I believe he is sincere about making the United States House of Representatives more reflective of the wishes of the American people and more respectful of the rights of all Members of Congress to at least have the opportunity to be heard on issues of importance. Accordingly, today I voted for Paul Ryan to be the next Speaker of the House, and I pray that our changes to the process will return the U.S. House to a true deliberative body. It is further my hope that once we show the American people that we will conduct their business in a more open and Member-driven manner that the American people will once again hold the House of Representatives in high regard.” ### |
