Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after voting in favor of the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act (H.R. 3762) which, among other things, includes the first broad repeal of Obamacare that will be sent to President Obama’s desk as well as provisions eliminating federal funding for Planned Parenthood: “The Democrats drafted Obamacare as they wanted it. They set the timetables, and they did so without carefully considering whether or not it would actually function as intended. Accordingly, they rammed it through without Republican support. And ever since – despite the law’s many broken promises and its failure to work as designed – the Democrats have blocked or filibustered our efforts to repeal it.” “At long last, we are placing on the President’s desk an Obamacare repeal bill.” “While it is doubtful that President Obama will sign this bill, I still hold out hope that he will be willing to work with Congress on a different plan to allow Americans to have access to a health care system that is affordable, high quality, and fair.” “I also stand for human dignity and respect for life, and reiterate my belief that the federal government has no business in directly or indirectly subsidizing abortion. Thus, I was pleased to once again vote to eliminate federal funding for Planned Parenthood.” “In addition to repealing Obamacare and ending taxpayer funding to abortion providers, the Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act would reduce the deficit by $516 billion while also providing additional funds for community health centers to help women get the care they need.” “I am pleased be voting in favor of this bill and sending it to the White House, so President Obama can show the American people where he stands.” ### |
