Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today issued the following statement on the passing of Jackie Stump, a longtime delegate who represented Buchanan, Tazewell, and Russell Counties: “Jackie Stump truly was one of a kind; he served in the Air Force before becoming a coal miner-turned-legislator, making history by running – and winning – a brief write-in campaign as an independent. Though Jackie didn’t often rise to speak on the floor of the House of Delegates, I will always remember that when he did, he usually shared the views of the ‘little guy,’ or folks who to many didn’t have extraordinary wealth, power, or influence.” “I have always appreciated the good working relationship and friendship that Jackie and I had. I am saddened by Jackie’s passing, and extend my prayers and deepest sympathies to his loved ones during this time.” ### |
