Griffith Applauds SCOTUS Decision Blocking Obama’s Immigration Actions

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today issued the following statement after the Supreme Court’s decision in United States v. Texas, which left in place a lower court order blocking President Obama’s controversial immigration actions:

“For the second time in as many days, the courts have confirmed: it is Congress that has the authority to write laws, not an overreaching Administration by Obama’s executive actions.  As I have said repeatedly, this important debate is not about whether you like the President’s immigration actions.  It is about whether you like the rule of law.  This Supreme Court ruling is a major victory for the rule of law.”

In 2015, Rep. Griffith joined a number of his colleagues in the House and Senate in signing an amicus brief challenging the President’s actions on Immigration.  The brief was filed with the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in support of a continued injunction against the Obama Administration’s immigrations actions in this case, Texas v. United States.

The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals later upheld the injunction blocking the Administration from implementing its plan.  The Administration appealed to the Supreme Court, which this morning issued its ruling.
