The U.S. House of Representatives today passed the Trickett Wendler, Frank Mongiello, Jordan McLinn, and Matthew Bellina Right to Try Act of 2018, a bill that expands access to experimental treatments for patients with terminal illnesses. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA), an original cosponsor of the bill, issued the following statement: “Many Americans have long sought the ‘right to try,’ whether for themselves or their loved ones. Letting someone with a terminal condition try experimental treatments after he or she has carefully considered the options and consulted a doctor simply makes sense. “This cause is one I have championed throughout my time in Congress, and today’s vote constitutes an important step forward. Since the Senate is already on record supporting similar legislation, I am optimistic President Trump will sign a ‘right to try’ bill into law soon.” ### |
