Griffith Statement on National Police Week

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement recognizing National Police Week:

“This National Police Week, we honor the men and women of law enforcement who gave their lives in the line of duty. Protecting our communities can come at a cost, and many police officers have paid the ultimate price. Among the 360 names to be added this year to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial is Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputy Curtis Allen Bartlett, who lost his life on March 9, 2017.

“During this week, the House of Representatives will vote on bills that support the work of law enforcement, including H.R. 5242, the School Resource Officer Assessment Act, which I cosponsored. This bill would study the deployment of School Resource Officers across the country to better understand how these officers are used effectively.

“I am pleased to support legislation to protect our communities and back law enforcement. It is the least we can do. This National Police Week, let us remember the sacrifices many offices have made and care for the family and friends they leave behind.”
