Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today issued the following statement in response to the news that potential explosive devices were sent to the homes of Hillary Clinton and former President Barack Obama, to CNN, and to Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL): “Violence is never acceptable, but it is particularly appalling when it occurs in place of the debate and deliberation upon which self-government depends. We can disagree strongly yet civilly in the public square and at the ballot box, but violence directed against political opponents has no place in a free society. “I would also like to express my gratitude to the first responders who are on the front lines when cowardly attempts to silence political speech are made.” ### |
