Griffith Applauds USDA Award of $405,800 for Public Service Vehicles in Ninth District Communities

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development today announced a total of $405,800 in loans and grants to communities in Virginia’s Ninth Congressional District for vehicles to be used in public services. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Purchasing and equipping modern vehicles for public services can place a strain on budgets in rural communities. Today’s award of $405,800 from USDA Rural Development will assist in a variety of services, from law enforcement to sanitation to education, upon which rural residents rely.”

Recipients include:

Town of Pennington Gap, which will receive a $96,000 loan and $50,000 grant to purchase a sanitation truck;

City of Norton, which will receive a $42,000 loan and $50,000 grant to purchase two law enforcement vehicles;

Kids Central, Inc., serving Wise County, Dickenson County, and the City of Norton, which will receive a $68,000 loan and $50,000 grant to purchase two buses for the Head Start program; and

Town of Haysi, which will receive a $12,500 loan and $37,300 grant to purchase a law enforcement vehicle.
