Griffith Applauds Appalachian Regional Commission Award of $718,027 to Lee County for Water Infrastructure

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) today awarded two grants totaling $718,027 to Lee County for water infrastructure projects. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Water infrastructure is important to the health, quality of life, and economic potential of a community. Today’s award of $718,027 by the Appalachian Regional Commission will support a major upgrade to the water systems in Lee County. This is a significant investment for the people of the county.”

ARC awarded $500,000 for the St. Charles Water Line Replacement – Phase III project. It will support the replacement of 17,730 linear feet of waterline traveling from the former sewer plant, south of St. Charles, on State Route 352 through town and then northward along State Route 636 to Turner's Siding at Routes 636 and 635. It will decrease water loss occurring from damage to the old waterline.

ARC awarded $218,027 for the Field Waterline Replacement Phase II project. It will support the replacement of 7,771 linear feet of waterline in the Fields community of Ewing, serving 36 households along State Route 724 and along Thistle, Sagebrush, and Briar Cliff Drives.
