The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) today awarded $500,000 to the town of Pulaski for the adaptive reuse of the historic Calfee Training School. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“This grant of $500,000 will help support the reconstruction and repurposing of the historic Calfee Training School. The completion of this project will provide space for a variety of community developments and highlight local Appalachian African American leaders. I am pleased to see the economic, cultural, and educational opportunities this can provide for the community in Pulaski.”

Further Information

The project will help with the renovation of a 2,500 square foot shared-use commercial kitchen and an event space for a new childcare center and local food-based entrepreneurs and community organizations. The new Calfee Community & Cultural Center (CCCC) will also serve as a multi-use municipal facility that will offer a variety of resources including educational trainings, a museum to highlight local Appalachian African American leaders and history, an event space for community programming.
