The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded a grant of $1,500,000 to the New River Valley Regional Commission for the New River Water Trail Expansion Project. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“The New River is a great natural asset, and many people access it by this water trail. ARC’s award of $1.5 million to expand the New River Water Trail will enhance its appeal to visitors and outdoor recreation enthusiasts.”

Further Information

According to ARC, the project will construct or improve four public launches along the New River Water Trail and support website, marketing, outreach, and river stewardship efforts. The project is expected to attract 1,500 new visitors each year.
