Congressman Griffith issued the following statement regarding his vote on H.R. 7946.

“The bill we voted on today establishes a process that could prevent noncitizen veterans who have committed felonies, such as human trafficking or drug trafficking with evidence of a conspiracy, from being deported. Further, this bill gives the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security the authority to admit back into the United States previously deported noncitizen veterans and provide them a pathway to citizenship. While there should be a pathway to citizenship for law-abiding noncitizen veterans, it should not include a pathway for noncitizen veterans convicted of heinous crimes. That is why I voted no.”
