Griffith Applauds NIST Grant for Martinsville-based Manufacturing Growth Project

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today applauded the announcement that the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has awarded a $400,000 grant to the Martinsville-based A.L. Philpott Manufacturing Extension Partnership through their MEP National Supply Chain Optimization and Intelligence Network program.

“I am pleased that the National Institute of Standards and Technology has made this investment, positively impacting our manufacturing industry in the Ninth District,” said Griffith. “Recent supply chain disruptions, which have led to shortages of critical medications and other everyday products, demonstrate just how important programs like these are for making sure our supply chains are stronger and more resilient.”

According to NIST, the National Supply Chain Optimization and Intelligence Network seeks to “comprehensively support supplier scouting services, rigorously assess and analyze domestic manufacturing capabilities, expand knowledge of each MEP Center’s local manufacturing ecosystems to stimulate the growth of the U.S. supply base which thereby strengthens the nation’s manufacturer resilience.”
