Griffith Introduces Bill to Shine a Light on Federal Employees Receiving Royalties

U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) has introduced H.R. 7853, the Royalty Transparency Act, which requires officers and employees in the executive branch to file financial disclosure reports and report royalty payments that they receive. The bill also mandates this information be made publicly accessible.

“The American people are losing faith and trust in their institutions, in part because of public servants who are receiving large amounts of compensation,” said Griffith. “Officers and employees in the executive branch sometimes receive royalty payments due to research in which they were involved. The public has a right to know the number of employees that receive royalties and the amounts they receive. The Royalty Transparency Act promotes transparency and will allow Congress and the public to see what these bureaucrats and regulators receive. This transparency will help Congress determine appropriate public policy.”
