The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded the West Piedmont Planning District Commission a $1,657,148 grant. This grant money supports the group’s Route 122 Regional Corridor Plan, developing a 24-plus mile corridor that extends from Franklin County to Bedford County along Smith Mountain Lake. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“This grant for $1,657,148 ensures the objectives of West Piedmont Planning District Commission are met to develop a bi-region plan for a major transportation corridor.”
“Improved access on Route 697 in Franklin County and Joppa Mill Road in Bedford County will benefit the security and well-being of existing and incoming residents in Bedford and Franklin Counties.”
Congressman Griffith wrote a letter of support on behalf of the grant application.
