The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University a $247,232 grant for research. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Syphilis is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) that is on the rise nationwide in the United States. Between 2018 and 2022, the number of syphilis cases has increased by almost 80 percent.

“This grant for $247,232 helps study the early stages of a serious STD.”
