The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded Wise County a $1,500,000 grant for sewer systems. The funds, made available by ARC’s Central Appalachia Distressed County Infrastructure program, will go towards a new sewer system for the Banner community, located outside of the Town of Coeburn. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Aging sewer system infrastructure can lead to issues of leaching septic tanks and direct discharges into area streams.

“This ARC grant for $1,500,000 helps Wise County deliver modernized sewer systems to the Banner community and protect water quality for residents.”
