U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement today honoring the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks:
“I was working in my law office on the morning of September 11, 2001, when my bookkeeper, Terry Haynie, alerted me that a plane had struck a Tower of the World Trade Center. Then on live television, we watched the second plane crash into the South Tower.
“The terrorist attacks resulted in a death toll of more than 3,000 innocent Americans between the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and passengers on Flight 93. This included first responders, whose heroic and daring actions that day and in the following weeks inspire many.
“Following the tragedy, I drove to Salem’s Kmart store and bought an American flag set to fly outside my office. I joined millions in showing solidarity as our nation was besieged by pain and fear.
“The memories of that day are hard. But the unbreakable resolve and enduring spirit of the American people have not wavered. We dedicate today to all the lives lost on September 11.”
