The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, one of the institutes that make up the National Institutes of Health, has awarded $355,935 to Biotherapeutics, Inc., located in Blacksburg, Virginia, for lung disease research as it relates to asthma. According to the American Lung Association, more than 25 million Americans live with asthma. Of those affected, somewhere between one and two million people suffer from severe asthma. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Many of us know of a loved one, friend or family member who deals with asthma, a condition that causes shortness of breath and chest tightness.

“This grant for $355,935 helps Biotherapeutics identify and study potential asthma treatments.”

BACKGROUND

Biotherapeutics Inc., formed in 2008, is a science-based technology company that integrates nutraceuticals, pharmaceuticals and informatics to advance precision medicine for preventing and treating autoimmune and metabolic disease.

Biotherapeutics received a similar grant for $288,986 in August.
