The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded the City of Galax a $50,000 grant for a project to revitalize the Rex Theater. The funding will support a strategic business plan and architectural study to assess long-term viability of the facility. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“Located in the historic downtown area of Galax, Rex Theater is a popular venue with rich traditions in country music and performative arts.
“This ARC grant for $50,000 supports Galax as the City explores ways to keep the theater running and operational.”
BACKGROUND
The Rex Theater is designated as a major venue on the Crooked Road, Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail.
The supported project to develop a business plan and architectural report will set the foundation to ensure the theater remains operational well into the future.
