Griffith Announces $455,525 DOT Grant to Virginia Tech for Teenage Driver Education

The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded Virginia Tech a $455,525 grant for a project that promotes safe driving practices among teen drivers interacting with Commercial Motor Vehicles (CMVs). U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

 

“According to USA Today, car crashes are the leading cause of death in the United States for people ages 1 to 54.

 

“This grant for $455,525 helps Virginia Tech prepare young drivers for interactions with commercial motor vehicles on roads and highways, therefore reducing potential for motor vehicle accidents and fatalities.”

 

BACKGROUND

 

The awarding agency of these funds is the DOT Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

 

The project awarded is entitled “Sharing the Road with Heavy Vehicles: Education and Outreach to Promote Safe Interactions with Heavy Vehicles among Teen and Adult Drivers.”
