U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development has awarded the Bland County Service Authority, based in Bland, Virginia, a $3,493,000 loan and $2 million grant. The funding will support upgrades at the Bastian Wastewater Treatment Plant. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“This USDA Rural Development loan and grant, which combines for a grand total of more than $5.4 million, helps the Bland County Service Authority pursue operations and maintenance improvements to the Bastian Wastewater Treatment facility.”
BACKGROUND
The funding is made available through the USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program, which directs funds to support clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal and sanitary solid waste disposal.
Facility improvements, along with supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) upgrades for the facility, will enhance sewer services provided to 236 existing customers and correct an existing health hazard from discharges into Wolf Creek.
