The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded the City of Bristol a $70,000 grant. The funding will support a conducted study exploring a connector trail that connects downtown Bristol to the Mendota Trail. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“This ARC grant for $70,000 helps the City of Bristol acquire a consultant group to assess the feasibility of a connector trail between State Street and the Bristol trailhead, thereby potentially boosting local tourism and supporting small businesses in the area.”
BACKGROUND
The Mendota Trail is a 12.5-mile hiking and biking train spanning from Bristol and Mendota in Washington County, Virginia. The trail serves as a regional outdoor recreation anchor and saw over 38,000 visitors in 2023.
