Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin announced via X that he cancelled a $50 million environmental justice grant to the Climate Justice Alliance. This announcement follows an EPA investigation into $20 billion that is housed in accounts through Citibank. Energy and Commerce Environment Subcommittee Chair and U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“The Energy and Commerce Committee extensively reported our concerns on the Biden-Harris moves shoveling money to green groups, some of which appears to have been done improperly, in the name of ‘environmental and climate justice.’

“I applaud EPA Administrator Zeldin’s actions to rein in this spending, which I believe did nothing more than to reward allies of the Biden-Harris Administration and promote an impractical green new deal.

“Administrator Zeldin’s actions highlight the need for more oversight and accounting of these expenditures.”

BACKGROUND

In the 118^th Congress, Rep. Griffith chaired the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Oversight & Investigations.

The Energy and Commerce Committee released a report in November of 2024 entitled “Exposing the Green Group Giveaway Behind the Biden-Harris Environmental Justice Programs.”

Rep. Griffith is the current chair of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Environment.
