Griffith, Virginia House GOP Delegation Joint Op-Ed: Democratic Political Theater at Virginians’ Expense Needs to End

As the U.S. government enters a third week of a shutdown, U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) joined Republican members of the Virginia House delegation to publish a joint op-ed that addresses the Democratic Party’s shutdown tactics, its impacts on the Commonwealth and the need for Senate Democrats to end their shutdown.

KEY EXCERPTS:

  • “Every single Republican member of Virginia’s House delegation voted to fund the government, keep it open, and ensure that essential services for our constituents continued without interruption. We passed a clean, short-term continuing resolution — the same kind of measure that has been used routinely with bipartisan support for years.”

  • “We have heard for years from Democrats that shutdowns are dangerous, disruptive, and damaging to the economy, particularly here in the Commonwealth. But when the opportunity came to prevent one, Senate Democrats chose to manufacture a crisis instead, hoping they could use it as a tool to advance a political agenda.”

Last week, Congressman Griffith also penned an op-ed on the Democratic shutdown featured in Cardinal News.
