Griffith Announces $300,000 ARC Grant to Friends of SWVA

The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has awarded Friends of Southwest Virginia, based in Abingdon, Virginia, a $300,000 grant for an Outdoor Recreation Initiative project. The funding will support Buchanan and Dickenson Counties in the development of a strategic recreation plan. U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:
“Outdoor recreation provides Southwest Virginia communities with new opportunities for economic growth, investment and interest.
“This ARC grant for $300,000 helps Friends of Southwest Virginia create and implement a strategic plan to support a popular and growing industry.”
BACKGROUND
The strategic plan will analyze existing recreation infrastructure, recommend high-impact improvements and propose a cohesive recreation brand.
Friends of Southwest Virginia leads various projects to preserve, promote and present the cultural and natural assets of Southwest Virginia.
