The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has awarded three additional grants to support health centers in Virginia’s Ninth District. The funding breakdown includes:

• $1,095,625 to Free Clinic of the New River Valley, Inc. (based in Christiansburg, Virginia)
• $900,172 to Bland County Medical Clinic Inc. (based in Bastian, Virginia)
• $873,541 to Martinsville Henry County Coalition for Health and Wellness (based in Martinsville, Virginia)

In response to these grant notices, U.S. Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement:

“Community health centers play necessary roles in rural health care. Earlier this year, I was proud to vote for a government funding measure that protects the work of these institutions.

“These HHS grants for more than $2.8 million help serve rural health care needs.”

BACKGROUND

The awarding office of these grants is the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).

As a member of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, Congressman Griffith serves as the Chairman of the Health Subcommittee which has policy jurisdiction over HRSA.
