Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) today issued the following statement after learning that an affiliate of coal producer Alpha Natural Resources will be ceasing operations or reducing its workforce at several Dickenson County mines.  Alpha Natural Resources affiliate Paramont Coal will be ceasing operations at Deep Mine 44, Deep Mine 37, and Deep Mine 25, and reducing the workforce at Deep Mine 41 and Deep Mine 26.  96 employees will be impacted.

“I am saddened by today’s news that operations will be ceased at mines in Virginia’s Ninth Congressional District and that other mines will see reductions in workforce.  My heart goes out to those hardworking Americans losing their jobs as a result.  I encourage those impacted by the job losses to contact my Abingdon office at 276-525-1405 for possible assistance and a resource packet that contains helpful information and tools.”
