GRIFFITH STATEMENT ON WITHDRAWAL OF PROPOSED OZONE REGULATIONS

Has the White House finally realized that more burdensome regulations will not encourage business owners to create jobs and invest in our economy?

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement today regarding President Obama’s decision to ask Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lisa Jackson to withdraw plans to tighten ozone standards:

“Has the White House finally realized that more burdensome regulations will not encourage business owners to create jobs and invest in our economy? I welcome President Obama’s decision today to withdraw the EPA’s plans for expensive new ozone standards. According to the EPA’s own estimates, this new regulation would create annual costs of up to $90 billion. We all recognize the need for reasonable regulations, but unreasonable regulations are costly job-killers. Businesses need certainty that new, costly regulations will not drive them out of business. As Labor Day approaches, I hope President Obama will take a look at many of the other burdensome regulations on the books that impede job creation and economic growth.

“Along with my colleague, Congressman G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.), I have offered the bipartisan EPA Regulatory Relief Act (H.R. 2250), which would give the EPA time to create achievable rules for industrial boilers and give facilities more time to comply with the rules. I am hopeful that the President and the EPA will see the value of this legislation to correct a regulatory problem for businesses and support H.R. 2250.”
