Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) released the following statement after his legislation, H.R. 2250, the EPA Regulatory Relief Act of 2011, was approved by the House Subcommittee on Energy and Power.

H.R. 2250 would protect thousands of American jobs by giving the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) more time to craft truly achievable rules for industrial boilers.  The bill would also give facilities more time to comply with these rules. H.R. 2250 will now be sent to the full House Energy and Commerce Committee for consideration.

“These are real people, and these are real jobs on the line. The EPA Regulatory Relief Act gives the EPA sufficient time to get the complex Boiler MACT rules right. Businesses need certainty. They need to know that we are going to get the rules right when imposing such expensive and comprehensive rules on businesses that employ thousands of hardworking Americans. As the EPA told the court last December on Boiler MACT, investments required by the rules are irreversible. For those businesses that decide to stop producing their product at a particular location, the job losses are also irreversible.

“I applaud my colleagues in the Subcommittee on Energy and Power for approving this job saving bill today. H.R. 2250 is a compromise. This language brought together a group of legislators from both sides of the aisle with a reasonable approach and reasonable language. The bill currently has 117 cosponsors, including 24 Democrats.  I look forward to continuing the fight to protect jobs and provide regulatory relief for job creators as H.R. 2250 continues to make its way through the legislative process.”
