GRIFFITH STATEMENT ON OCTOBER UNEMPLOYMENT REPORT

While any new job created in the Ninth District or elsewhere in the country is welcomed news, our nation’s unemployment rate still remains far too high.

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement today regarding the national unemployment report for October released this morning by the Department of Labor:

“While any new job created in the Ninth District or elsewhere in the country is welcomed news, our nation’s unemployment rate still remains far too high.  With at least 9 percent unemployment for 28 of the last 30 months, clearly more must be done to create and protect jobs. Right now, more than 20 House-passed, bipartisan jobs bill are stuck in the Senate.  These pro-growth bills would encourage job creators to invest and expand, helping rebuild our economic foundation.

“Just last night while talking with constituents, I heard from a family of five worried about job losses, like many Ninth District families. Two family members have already lost their jobs while two others are facing imminent layoffs.  They are concerned about how they will pay their bills this winter.  These folks, and many others in the Ninth District, need jobs.  The Senate needs to act quickly.”
