GRIFFITH REBUKES SOLYNDRA BONUS REQUEST

Solyndra’s request for bonuses is outrageous.

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement today rebuking the request of the bankrupt solar energy company Solyndra to pay staff bonuses under a proposal filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware:

“Solyndra’s request for bonuses is outrageous. The American taxpayers are already on the hook for the $535 million Solyndra loan guarantee, not to mention the taxpayers aren’t even the first creditor in line for $75 million because the Department of Energy ignored the law and subordinated that amount. Many questions about how this money was handled remain unanswered.  However, there is no question that these bonuses would be an inappropriate waste of taxpayer assets. Secretary Chu and the Obama Administration need to protect the taxpayers from any more damage in the Solyndra fiasco.

“I implore the Obama Administration to make an appearance in the Bankruptcy Court as creditors on behalf of the taxpayers of America and oppose these bonuses.”
