Griffith Extremely Disappointed by EPA’s New Greenhouse Gas Regulations

Congressman Morgan Griffith issued the following statement after the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its new power plant regulations:

“In my opinion, these new regulations make it crystal clear that the Obama Administration wants to end the use of coal in our country.  This is a very sad day for coal employers, coal employees, and coal customers.  According to the Energy Information Administration, the U.S. has a 200 year supply of coal.  Roughly half of the electricity in the country, slightly more in our region, is generated from coal.  Coupled with last year’s utility regulations, I believe this new rule will undoubtedly lead to higher energy prices for the average American family and the average American business.  If the President has his way, coal will be out of business in America.

“While not surprising, the EPA’s unilateral actions need to be stopped.  I will continue to fight to rein in this out-of-control  agency.”
