Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after learning that Norfolk Southern Corp. has furloughed approximately 200 employees in the railroad’s Bluefield-based Pocahontas Division and the Roanoke, Va. based Virginian Division:

“I have been warning folks about the negative consequences of the Obama Administration's war on coal.  The direct attack is launched at the coal industry, but the ripple effect hits those who support the coal industry, like Norfolk Southern Corp.  Unfortunately, this war on coal has claimed another 200 employees in the railroad’s Bluefield-based Pocahontas Division and the Roanoke, Va. based Virginian Division.  It's a shame to see the Obama Administration destroying good-paying, middle class jobs at a time when we need them the most.
