Griffith Independence Day Statement

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement today honoring Independence Day:

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.--That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.” – The Declaration of Independence

“Powerful and bold, the Declaration of Independence was drafted by a young Thomas Jefferson in order to defy a king and declare independence from Great Britain.  Our Founding Fathers and this revolutionary document changed the course of history, and the concepts of freedom, equality, liberty, and a government empowered by the consent of those governed continue echoing through time and history and across the world to this day.”

“To be sure, we as a nation have faced and continue to face many challenges.  Our independence and rights continue to be tested.  Today, Independence Day, we celebrate the birth of the United States, reflect on its founding, and are reminded of the price of our freedom.  We honor those who have served our nation, and those who have risked their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor to the noble cause of independence.  Many continue to make these same sacrifices.  May we always remain vigilant, and committed to preserving and protecting the freedoms and liberties outlined by our Founding Fathers in the Declaration of Independence.  May God bless you and your family, and may He continue to bless these United States of America.  From my family to yours, happy Independence Day.”
