Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) was chosen to serve on the conference committee with the Senate to resolve the differences between House and Senate energy legislation. Griffith, who has served on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and its Subcommittee on Energy and Power since he was elected to the House of Representatives, issued the following statement after the announcement of his selection as a conferee: “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve as a conferee and continue pushing to maximize America’s energy potential, modernize outdated energy policies, ensure access to affordable, reliable energy, and protect good-paying jobs, including those in coalfields of Southwest Virginia and throughout Appalachia.” “I am optimistic that, together, we can find a bipartisan, bicameral path forward on this important legislation.” On December 3, 2015, the House of Representatives passed its comprehensive energy bill, the North American Energy Security and Infrastructure Act (H.R. 8). The Senate passed its version on April 20, 2016, and the two bills must now be combined by Griffith and others on the conference committee. Once the committee reaches an agreement, the legislation will then be reported back to the House and Senate for passage before being sent to President Obama for his signature. ### |
