Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement after voting against the $1.3 trillion omnibus appropriations bill:

“I could not vote for the omnibus on the floor today. In the roughly seventeen hours between the release of the text and the vote on the bill, I was not able to complete reading it, nor was I given a chance to understand its contents fully.

“After the vote, I discussed whether the bill covered an issue with one of the many Capitol Hill reporters. I had to say, ‘Who knows? I haven’t had time to read the entire bill. I can’t vote for who knows.’

“I have pledged since first running for Congress that I would read a bill before voting for it. Since I was not able to complete reading the omnibus, I could not vote for it.

“We find ourselves having to vote on an omnibus because the Senate couldn’t pass any appropriations bills. The House of Representatives passed all twelve appropriations bills on time before the beginning of the fiscal year on October 1, 2017.”
